Validation of Local Position Invariance through Gravitational Red-Shift Experiment

چکیده
We present a summary of experimental tests of Local Position Invariance (LPI) via gravitational red-shift measurement. The results of the Pound-Rebka and Pound-Snider experiments are discussed, as well as those of Gravity-Probe A. A summary of null gravitational red-shift experiments is presented, concluding with the most recently established value of uncertainty in the null red-shift LPI violation parameter, |α| < 1.4 x 10.

Testing the equivalence principle by Lamb shift energies.
The Einstein Equivalence Principle has as one of its implications that the non-gravitational laws of physics are those of special relativity in any local freely-falling frame. We consider possible tests of this hypothesis for systems whose energies are due to radiative corrections, ie. which arise purely as a consequence of quantum field theoretic loop effects. Specifically, we evaluate the Lam...
متن کاملTesting local position invariance with four cesium-fountain primary frequency standards and four NIST hydrogen masers.
We report the most sensitive tests to date of the assumption of local position invariance (LPI) underlying general relativity, based on a 7 yr comparison of cesium and hydrogen atomic clocks (frequency standards). The latest results place an upper limit that is over 20 times smaller than the previous most sensitive tests; this is consistent with the null shift predicted by LPI. The result is ba...
متن کاملExperimental Design for Testing Local Lorentz Invariance Violations in Gravity
Local Lorentz invariance is an important component of General Relativity. Testing for Local Lorentz invariance can not only probe the foundation stone of General Relativity but also help to explore the unified theory for General Relativity and quantum mechanics. In this paper, we search the Local Lorentz invariance violation associated with operators of mass dimension d = 6 in the pure-gravity ...
متن کاملRethinking the Concept of Space-Time in the General Theory of Relativity: The Deflection of Starlight and the Gravitational Red Shift
In order to confirm the prediction of the General Theory of Relativity that space and time are relative and that matter warps a dynamic space-time continuum that surrounds it, Einstein suggested two optical tests: one being the gravitational deflection of starlight, and the second being the gravitational red shift. The tests confirmed the predictions of the General Theory of Relativity. The obs...
متن کاملCharge conservation and Equivalence principle
The THǫμ formalism was developed to study nonmetric theories of gravitation. In this letter we show that theories that violate Local Lorentz Invariance (LLI) or Local Position Invariance (LPI) also violate charge conservation. Using upper bounds on this violation we can put very stringent limits to violations of Einstein Equivalence Principle (EEP). These limits, in turn, severely restrict stri...
